Performance Opportunity Grants

Performance Opportunity Grants assist arts curriculum programs by facilitating ensemble travel for invitational or competitive performances/exhibitions based on special invitation, recognition of excellence or achievement. Eligible applicants are 5th-12th grade public school arts curriculum programs in Montgomery, Harris, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Austin, Waller, Grimes, Walker, and San Jacinto counties.

Eligible Applicants

  • Eligible applicants are 5th-12th grade public school arts curriculum programs. Submission of the application may be made by the instructor, program administrator, fine arts coordinator, principal, or representative of the school district that teaches or administers the program or curriculum.
  • Eligible programs must be in a public school within Montgomery, Harris, Liberty, Chambers, Galveston, Brazoria, Fort Bend, Austin, Waller, Grimes, Walker, and San Jacinto Counties.
  • Applicant programs may only receive one grant per school year. A single school year coincides with the Grant Funding Period for the same year.

Activities Eligible for Grant Funding

  • An eligible grant request for a performance travel event will not exceed $15,000.
  • An eligible performance travel event may only occur within the Grant Funding Period. The first day of the performance travel event must occur within the Grant Funding Period to be eligible.
  • An eligible request excludes previously completed purchases. Grant funds will not be used to reimburse for completed purchases or past travel.
  • An eligible performance travel event results from a special invitation or recognition of excellence, and the ensemble must travel beyond its usual scheduled annual performances for the year. Examples of eligible travel would be for progression beyond the usual UIL competition (regional or state finals), highlight performances at a conference or convention, and invitational performances at a recognized competition or event that is outside of regular performance opportunities. Eligible performance travel expenses include reasonable bus or air transportation, lodging, and a daily food allowance for the instructor, a supervisor or vice principal, and the students performing. Specific beginning and ending dates of a performance travel event must be submitted with the application.
  • An eligible performance travel event excludes regular UIL competitions, annual concerts, or football half-time performances.
